Help Baby Emmett

In this picture, my nephew, Emmett, attempts a weak smile for his parents before doctors put him on the ventilator to help him breathe and save his life. Emmett is not quite 3 months old and suffering from Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). He has spent several days at the hospital in the Pediatric ICU. Emmett’s whole family has been ill, but the virus hit this sweet little guy the hardest.

Emmett has been struggling to breathe as he fights this virus. He has been on and off the ventilator, unable to breathe independently. His heart rate has been very high, and one lung partially collapsed, but with the ventilator helping him live, his body is more relaxed to focus on healing. Doctors tried taking him off the ventilator, but they put him back on because he could not breathe sufficiently on his own. They say it continues to be a few steps forward and a few steps back

Emmett’s specialized medical care is intensive and life-saving. It is also very costly. Medical insurance does not cover everything, so I ask you to help this baby and his family cover their co-pays and other out-of-pocket medical expenses.

While Emmett is in the PICU, mom stays at the hospital while dad is home with the other children, unable to work regular hours through this crisis.
