Megan's Costa Rican Music Efforts

Regardless of the chapter in our life, we all feel called to do something that will either impact our own life or the lives of others. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we can do both. As a lover of Christ and avid follower of His word, I felt an itch I couldn’t scratch this year. Even after graduating college, starting a great career as a music teacher, and settling into a new adulthood, I wasn’t quite able to place it until I extended my faith in God and let Him take me farther than He has before.

I had the privilege of serving with Pura Vida Missions  (www.puravidamissions.com) in July of this year. Even though it was my first time in Costa Rica and first time serving with PVM, I felt an amazing sense of connection with the children and community we helped. I looked forward to getting up early every day (which is no easy task for a 20-something college grad) and felt like the time flew by too quickly at our sites. From my very first day at the mission, I felt a tug on my heart that told me this would the beginning of something amazing.

Sing to the LORD a new song, Sing His praise from the end of the earth! You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it You islands, and those who dwell on them. Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voices… Let them shout for joy from the tops of the mountains. Let them give glory to the LORD and declare His praise in the coastlands.” Isaiah 40:10-12

Boy, I could not have taken that verse any more literally if I tried. After several weeks of prayers, soul-searching, and a leap of faith, I finally found the itch to scratch. On September 9th, I will be embarking on what is possibly my most exciting adventure to date. I have the opportunity to return to San Ramón, Costa Rica, live at the Pura Vida Mission site, and implement a music program with the kids I have already grown to know and love. From September to December of this year, I will have the chance to minister to children and parents alike through music and Spanish. While in Costa Rica, my responsibilities will include (but not be limited to): teaching music classes, teaching English classes, finding creative ways to reach students with the Gospel, aid with sponsorship programs, assist with social media and other office duties at Pura Vida Missions, and any other duties that might arise.

Due to the facilities I will be using at the mission, transportation I will need, and other staff expenses, I am asked to make a payment of $1,000 to Pura Vida Missions before I begin on September 9th. This money to PVM does NOT include my financial responsibilities for airfare, food, and other expenses (including any class materials I may need) for the three months I will be living in San Ramón.

As you can imagine, an experience like this requires support from others. If you feel called, and see value in what I could bring to the children of Costa Rica, I would greatly appreciate any amount of financial support to help me with this journey. However, even more importantly, I would like to ask for your prayer support. I truly believe prayer is the fuel that allows any and everything in our lives to be successful, especially as I follow God’s lead in ministry for the rest of 2015. Without faith and prayer, I’m just a girl in a foreign land with a ukulele.

I am so excited by what God is doing in my life, and cannot wait to jump with both feet into this Latin adventure! One of Pura Vida Missions main philosophies includes the notion that serving is not just an event; it’s a lifestyle. I think all Christians are called to serve in different ways; some make huge impacts locally while others take on the world; some are called to minister to crowds while others influence in their personal relationships. All active Christians strive for a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God, and I believe God has placed this calling in my life to not only encourage the faith of others, but also enhance my own. I feel as though God has taken everything I love (children, travel, warm weather, Christian fellowship, music, Spanish, Him), blended them all together and said, “Here; this is for you. Do My work.” I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me and the people of Costa Rica!

Thank you for your considered support.

In His Service,

Megan Raedy
