Choosing the wrong career shouldn't cost you and your loved ones everything.
The instability of the video game industry is news to no one. Just when you're sure you've found a steady place to land, the rug is pulled out from under you, and every dollar goes to survival. This was the case for me and Poppy, my partner of 10 years, when I was abruptly laid off from a "stable" design role in 2023. It was a nightmare, one that drained our savings and left us scrambling to care for each other and our beloved pets. When it ended, we rejoiced.
But as of October 2025, it's happening again.
Leaving the games industry is one of the hardest decisions I'll ever make. I worked tirelessly for 7 years to develop and refine targeted skills in game design, only to be chewed up and spat out along with my partner. I can never get that time back, nor can I ease the financial trauma we've both suffered. Enough is enough.
That being said, a career change can't happen overnight, and our savings are depleted once again. I'm working retail and contract gigs, and my partner is on the job market as well. We're also selling everything we can stand to. It's something, but until we find stable work, we'll need more support.
This situation is beyond terrifying. I'd give anything to keep the home I love so much. Our little family has been through so much together, and the idea that it could all come crashing down around us breaks my heart.
But we still have hope. The kindness of our community helped us get back on our feet once before, and I believe it can happen again. All we need now is to hold out a little longer, and to do that, we need your help!
Every cent earned will go towards paying for bills, groceries, and pet food. Anything we make in excess of these basic needs will be saved for the future.
Thank you so much for believing in us, and for reading this far. Even if you can't donate, sharing this fundraiser makes a huge difference for us.
