In Loving Memory Xavier “X” Y. Zavala

Dear friends, my name is Ariana Estrada and am humbly reaching out on behalf of the Zavala family. 

It is with great sadness, I share news of the tragic passing of Xavier Y. Zavala, lovingly known as “X” on Thursday August 30th 2022 at just 22 years of age. It is difficult to comprehend his sudden loss and he is already missed terribly by all who knew and loved him. 

Xavier was taken way too soon. His passing is a devastating, irreplaceable loss for parents Paulina and Rey, wife Jaylee, daughter Natalia, brother Xander, sister Taylor and many extended family and friends. 

Jaylee, Xavier’s wife of 2 years – was the love of his life, whom he met and dated while in High School and will raise their daughter Natalia alone. 

Natalia will turn (2) soon and will forever be without her father who loved her dearly. 

Xavier’s younger brother Xander (7) and their cousins will no longer have “X “to look up to as their role model. 

Xavier developed a passion for wrestling as a 7th grader and continued competing at the highest level through high school. His wresting career culminated with him reaching the 2019 Washington State Championships where he finished 3rd. Though they lived apart, Xavier’s father Rey Zavala always loved him. Rey was there for him 100%, always cheering him on at every match and never missed one. Xavier was and always will be “My Champ” to his dad. 

Xavier benefited from the generosity and kindness of Hope Solo and Tomatillo Restaurant in Kennewick who both sponsored his wrestling career so this young man with limited means could pursue his dreams and make his coaches, teammates, school and community proud. Xavier’s accomplishments can forever be found on the Kamiakin High School Wall of Fame. 

After graduating from Kamiakin, Xavier immediately enlisted in the US Marines to serve the country he loved and grew up in, achieving the rank of Corporal – E4. He was stationed in North Carolina.   

However, X was much more than a Wrestling Champion and US Marine. He was a beloved son, brother, cousin and friend. He was a person determined to succeed at anything he put mind to. He had the brightest future ahead of him. Xavier had a special, infectious humor that made everyone laugh. It is no exaggeration to describe him as being larger than life. There was no one else like him. Xavier lit up the room and brought smiles and laughter to everyone he came across. 

Xavier’s parents divorced while he was young, and his mother Paulina worked tirelessly to raise Xavier as a single parent. Paulina was the best mom and her love was exemplified by the outstanding, respectful, considerate and hard working young man Xavier grew to be.

As a result, he was kind to everyone around him and was always willing to extend a hand. Xavier always went out of his way to make people happy. He loved writing stories and excelled in face painting for the Water Follies boat races where he served as a 10 - year volunteer for the City of Kennewick. 

Growing up, Xavier enjoyed attending Sunday services with his family at Bethel Church in Richland, Washington. 

Please keep the Zavala family in your prayers and thoughts in the aftermath of this tragedy. Donations would greatly be appreciated in any amount. All proceeds will help with Xavier’s funeral and memorial services above what is provided by the US Marines. Additional donations above that amount will be used to establish a wrestling sponsorship for student athletes. After graduating high school, Xavier and his mom sponsored (2) high school aged kids every year, to repay those that did the same for him. It is our sincere and heartfelt hope this will honor his wishes and keep his legacy and memory alive.  

Xavier Y. Zavala August 7, 2000 – August 30, 2022. You have left us too soon, but not without touching our hearts and making the world a better place. Like a candle, sometimes those that shine the brightest burn the quickest. May you rest in peace until we someday meet again. 

Hopefully the pain, despair and sorrow of Xavier’s loss will subside over time and gradually be replaced with fond, loving remembrances of him as the beloved son, cherished husband, devoted father, beautiful brother, supportive cousin and generous friend that he was

Queridos amigos, mi nombre es Ariana Estrada y humildemente me comunico en nombre de la familia Zavala.

Es con gran tristeza, comparto la noticia del trágico fallecimiento de Xavier Y. Zavala, cariñosamente conocido como “X” el jueves 30 de agosto de 2022 con tan solo 22 años de edad. Es difícil comprender su pérdida repentina y todos los que lo conocieron y amaron ya lo extrañan terriblemente.

Xavier fue llevado demasiado pronto. Su fallecimiento es una pérdida devastadora e irremplazable para los padres Paulina y Rey, la esposa Jaylee, la hija Natalia, el hermano Xander, la hermana Taylor y muchos familiares y amigos.

Jaylee, la esposa de Xavier durante 4 años, fue el amor de su vida, a quien conoció mientras estaba en la escuela secundaria y criará solo a su hija Natalia.

Natalia cumplirá (2) años pronto y siempre estará sin su padre que la amaba mucho.

El hermano menor de Xavier, Xander (7) y sus primos ya no tendrán a “X” como modelo a seguir.

Xavier desarrolló una pasión por la lucha libre cuando estaba en séptimo grado y continuó compitiendo al más alto nivel durante la escuela secundaria. Su carrera como luchador culminó cuando llegó al Campeonato del Estado de Washington de 2019, donde terminó tercero. Aunque vivían separados, el padre de Xavier, Rey Zavala, siempre lo amó. Rey estuvo ahí para él al 100%, siempre animándolo en cada partido y nunca se perdió uno. Xavier fue y siempre será "Mi campeón" para su padre.

Xavier se benefició de la generosidad y amabilidad de Hope Solo y Tomatillo Restaurant en Kennewick, quienes patrocinaron su carrera de lucha libre para que este joven con recursos limitados pudiera perseguir sus sueños y enorgullecer a sus entrenadores, compañeros de equipo, escuela y comunidad. Los logros de Xavier se pueden encontrar para siempre en el Muro de la Fama de la Escuela Secundaria Kamiakin.

Después de graduarse de Kamiakin, Xavier inmediatamente se alistó en la Marina de los EE. UU. para servir al país que amaba y en el que creció, alcanzando el rango de cabo E4. Estaba destinado en Carolina del Norte.

Sin embargo, X fue mucho más que un campeón de lucha libre y un marine estadounidense. Era un amado hijo, hermano, primo y amigo. Era una persona decidida a triunfar en todo lo que se proponía. Tenía el futuro más brillante por delante. Xavier tenía un humor especial y contagioso que hacía reír a todos. No es exagerado describirlo como más grande que la vida. No había nadie más como él. Xavier iluminó la habitación y trajo sonrisas y risas a todos los que se cruzó.

Los padres de Xavier se divorciaron cuando él era joven y su madre, Paulina, trabajó incansablemente para criar a Xavier como padre soltero. Paulina fue la mejor madre y su amor fue ejemplificado por el joven excepcional, respetuoso, considerado y trabajador que llegó a ser Xavier.

Como resultado, era amable con todos los que lo rodeaban y siempre estaba dispuesto a tender una mano. Xavier siempre hizo todo lo posible para hacer feliz a la gente. Le encantaba escribir historias y se destacó pintando caras para las carreras de botes Water Follies, donde se desempeñó como voluntario durante 10 años para la ciudad de Kennewick.

Mientras crecía, Xavier disfrutaba asistir a los servicios dominicales con su familia en la Iglesia Bethel en Richland, Washington.

Con suerte, el dolor, la desesperación y la pena por la pérdida de Xavier disminuirán con el tiempo y serán reemplazados gradualmente por recuerdos afectuosos y amorosos de él como el hijo amado, el esposo adorado, el padre devoto, el hermoso hermano, el primo solidario y el amigo generoso que fue.
