Matt has Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 3 and needs help with daily functions. Matt was living in a group home which was a very stressful and depressing experience. Thankfully his parents brought him back home to take care of him, but the situation is still complicated. His mother has multiple sclerosis, and his father needs a knee replacement surgery. Matt wants to take the pressure off of his parents who have always put Matt first in their lives.
His wish is to live on his own again for at least one more year before going back to a group home if needed. In that year, Matt will be able to search for future job opportunities to continue living on his own and alleviate the pressure on his family. All donations towards Matt’s cause will directly support his freedom and allow him to live his life more independently.
Reaching the fundraising goal will give him enough financial stability to pay for rent for one year living on his own. Even if we reach our goal, he will still rely on other government programs to help provide in-home workers. Simple daily functions can be challenging or impossible with SMA, and these workers are essential to help with those daily struggles. Not only is this an opportunity to get Matt back in his own apartment, it's also the opportunity for him to live a life relative to any other 33-year-old while keeping his full independence.
Even though the ultimate goal is to provide Matt with at least a year of freedom, any amount of support will provide relief for him and his parents. Matt and his family greatly appreciate any support the community can give. If you personally know Matt, you'll know his family and freedom are of the utmost importance to him.
If you are unable to donate, please, consider sharing his story. Matt will be streaming at https://www.twitch.tv/mkiva with streamer JoeBruin and NHL player Robert Thomas on Saturday December 19th at 12PM Central. The event will include games like chess and valorant and an "ask me anything" section!
