Approximately ten months ago right around the time that tony’s wife passed away, he developed ear pain that wouldn’t go away, it was so persistent and painful and nobody would listen to him. He then developed a cough about a week after that and it just wouldn’t go away. He went to urgent care after urgent care and could not get anyone to listen and take him seriously. They all thought he was having anxiety and not sleeping well due to the death of his wife. He complained about a sore throat and they all chalked it up to him crying and screaming at night because he felt so alone and lost. The months came and went and all they could say was to go home and take some melatonin and sleep it off. They said that his lungs were clear and his throat looked fine. He finally had a routine visit to the Dr. in March when his daughter, Michelle, accompanied him to demand answers and demand he see an ENT to figure out this ear pain, the cough and the reason why it sounded as if he couldn’t breathe anymore on his own. He was very winded all the time and constantly sounded like he was whistling just to talk. They went to the Dr. and Michelle asked the secretary to hand her a piece of paper so she could write her a note… on that note it stated, “my Dad cannot breathe but he will refuse to go to the hospital unless the Dr tells him he has to.” The Dr. walked in and said, I can hear you breathing from outside, your lungs sound like junk! He listened to his lungs and his breathing and said it doesn’t sound good at all. Michelle begged for an ENT referral and he agreed to send them. They gave him an inhaler and said check back in two weeks. They went to check out and they said ENT would call them! Michelle refused to wait and she marched right over there to the ENT and said that he needed to be seen ASAP. They were able to get an appointment two days later. Fast forward two days to one of the worst days of his life. The ENT did a scope and pulled the scope out and said, “I don’t even have to do a biopsy, you have cancer” then stated that “you need to get to the hospital to have an emergency tracheotomy put in to save your airway from collapsing!” They rushed to the hospital on March 6th, had a tracheotomy by the wee morning hours of March 7th. One cough or sneeze and this man would’ve been dead. March 13th he was allowed to go home for a few days before the major surgery on the 20th however he did not make it at home before they had to call 911 twice due to choking on blood clots. He was rushed back in by ambulance on the 18th and readmitted to the hospital. March, 20th they did the major surgery which took hours and hours only to be rushed back in less than 24hrs later for an emergency surgery to remove four blood clots. During the major surgery they removed his voice box as well as four lymph nodes and removed some of the muscle from under his arm to graph it into his throat to create a flap. This created hundreds of sutures inside and outside only to be replaced by staples when he went back in for the emergency surgery. He will need round the clock care for now and his family would stop at nothing to be there for him. I am just asking for help for his prolonged medical needs and to help manage some travel time and work missed.
Before Tony’s illness, his daughter, Michelle has been attending, Grace Church, Avon, for the past 9 years! With answered prayers, Tony has been also attending Grace Church for the past 9 months and before his diagnosis he got baptized. Tony accepted his Lord and savior into his heart! Please join his fight to help take some of the financial burdens off of him and his families minds so he can continue to only focus on his healing!
