Cole and Abbie’s Halloween Charity Event

Our inspiration for choosing this charity was Sarah McDiarmid a 41 year old mum of 2. This was her story in her own words

“I work part time as a depute head teacher in a primary school, a job I absolutely adore. I love travelling to new places and just spending time having fun as a family. I also have stage 4 breast cancer.

I discovered a lump in my breast in March 2020 and went to my GP, thankfully I was referred straight to the hospital breast clinic despite the world going into a lockdown due to the pandemic. I got the news that I had breast cancer on the 1st April 2020 and then was so grateful to have all the normal treatments go ahead despite the restrictions in place. I had mastectomy surgery, then 18 weeks of chemotherapy, 3 weeks of radiotherapy and a year of targeted therapy. 16 months later I rang the bell in the chemotherapy ward and expected to have 5 years of hormone therapy before being free from treatment.

Unfortunately this didn’t quite happen as I got a diagnosis of secondary (stage 4) breast cancer in February of 2023, just after my 40th birthday. My cancer is not curable, but I am on a treatment regime which aims to slow down the spread. Thankfully I have now been stable for 19 months and get to live in 16 week blocks between scans. I now write a blog sharing my daily life and the intense sense of perspective it has given me. I’m grateful for every day that I get to spend with my children, husband, family and friends, that I get to go to work still and that I can keep making memories just now.”
