On any given night, at venues across the Hudson Valley, local patrons are likely to see the familiar faces of - Nikki and Dave. Whether you spot them at a trivia night or a stand-up comedy event that Dave hosts, you’re sure to know that Nikki and Dave are a couple who love people and, even more, they love to laugh. But there was nothing funny about what happened on the night of August 28th.
After visiting family, Nikki was driving home on Route 59 when she was broadsided by a car travelling at least 60 MPH, straight through a red light. The other driver's sobriety is still being investigated. Nikki’s car was destroyed. Lucky to have survived, she sustained two broken wrists, a broken rib, a fracture to her L5 vertebra, a bruised lung and a fracture in her foot. The driver of the other vehicle and four passengers were brought to nearby hospitals - some in critical condition. Click to watch the local news report.
In the months it will take Nikki to fully recover, she will require help to do everything. From getting dressed to feeding herself.
In a strange twist of fate, Dave is in between jobs so will be by her side to help her, but finding work and caring for Nikki will prove a challenge. It will also be a while before Nikki is able to return to any of the Rockland County veterinary clinics where she has become a friendly and familiar face.
Paying their basic bills like rent, utilities and groceries will become a burden on top of any medical expenses they may have to cover while waiting for insurance claims to get processed.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help cover some of these costs for the next 3-4 months. Hopefully, in that time, Nikki’s body will heal and these two can get back to doing what matters most - living and laughing - together.
Until then, we their families, would be grateful if you could find it in your hearts to do, even a little, to help support these two awesome people.
Thanks so much.
