Help needed while my dad fights cancer

On August 18th, my dad went into the ER because he had low oxygen. Little did we know that we would also discover during this visit that he has cancer. He was in the hospital from the 18th to the 20th. During this time, we learned that he has lung cancer in both lungs that has also spread to his lymph nodes. There is a large mass crushing his right lung, which means he has little to no air coming from that lung. He has one functioning lung right now. He got some biopsies done on the 25th and we now know that he has small cell carcinoma, metastasized small cell carcinoma. We also learned that since January, he has had a vertebra disintegrate in his back. This likely means the cancer has spread to his spine and/or bones. They did an MRI of the brain, and it doesn’t look like it has spread to the brain. We are still waiting on a PET scan. He has an appointment scheduled for the 6th of Sept for that. However, we hope to get him in sooner if possible. Last night his oxygen once again dropped to 87 so my mom went to rush him to the ER. By the time they got there it had fallen to 79. Anything 88 and below is extremely dangerous. He was admitted and moved to the ICU, where he is currently. The mass in his right lung has grown. He has been battling pneumonia for a couple of months now. It won’t go away. He has been given antibiotics through IV while in the hospital and sent home with oral antibiotics. They are treating him with the most potent antibiotics out there. He starts to get better, then turns for the worse again. His Pneumonia will not go away. They continue to treat it to get rid of the infection. They need to start chemo as soon as possible and try to shrink the mass on his lung, but until they have gotten rid of pneumonia, they can’t start chemo. The reason for that is due to his infection; the chemo could kill him. He will be in the ICU for at least a couple more days. We hope he will be able to come home, but right now, we don’t know what will happen. I have been wanting to start a go fund me for my parents but was also trying to wait until we know more and know what we are truly facing and how much time we will have left with him. My dad is the primary source of income. Yes, my mom works, but not much, and her income doesn’t come close to paying the household bills. Also, right now, she can’t work with my dad being in the ICU and not knowing what we are facing. She is a mess, as we all are. I will help as much as possible, but I don’t make enough to cover their bills and my own. I barely have anything left over by the time I pay all of my bills., not to mention I am also taking time off work to be there for my mom and dad and help in any way I can. I am hoping to raise enough money to pay their bills for a while so that they can focus on getting my dad better and hopefully beating this. Not only do they not have money coming in, but they are facing who knows how many thousands of medical bills coming in on top of all their regular bills. I know my goal is high, and I am asking for a lot, but I want them not to worry about becoming homeless on top of worrying about losing my dad. They, unfortunately, don’t have savings or retirement to fall back on. They have rent due soon and have no clue how they will pay it. I know times are rough for everyone and every little bit truly helps. Thank you for trying to help my family during this horrible time. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
