As many of you already know, my brother John was diagnosed with Young's Parkinson's disease 3 ½ years ago. He was able to work and live a relatively normal life until this past June when his overall health declined at a rapid pace. Due to the immense change in his physical & mental capacity, doctors worked together to determine that my brother most likely has a disease called, Multiple Systems Atrophy-Parkinsonian type. MSA is a rare neurological disorder that impairs your body's overall functions (mobility, fine/gross motor skills, etc.). It is a progressive & degenerative disease that deteriorates portions of the brain, and slowly shuts down your major systems.
My brother worked at Home Depot for over 15 years but had to stop working this past summer. Unfortunately, that means that he no longer has health insurance through his company and we're now left paying the COBRA fees to keep his insurance. As many of you know, this is a tremendous expense as it is, not to mention that the insurance company doesn't pay for some of his medications. As mentioned, John's disease is progressive and we need to make sure that he continues to receive the best care.
Although my family has chosen to largely deal with this privately and independently, we now need to reach out in order to help my brother as much as we can. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and willingness to help our family.
