On December 15, 2018 our dear friend Rinaldo “Monty” Monterrosa passed away unexpectedly at 42 years of age. With his sudden passing, Rinaldo leaves behind an amazing wife of 18 years (Hannah), and four beautiful children (Isabella-17, Andrew-14, Jacob-14, and Lilah-8). They are all incredible individuals who deserve the very best love, care, and support in order to get through this devastating time. We want to ensure that the Monterrosa family has time to grieve and focus on their family, without the worry of daily expenses for the foreseeable future.
Rinaldo was a dedicated, loving husband and father, son, and friend. His life revolved around his family, and he treasured every minute that he spent with them. Rinaldo devoted 18 years to his wife, best friend, and soulmate Hannah. He cherished being a father to Isabella, Andrew, Jacob, and Lilah. Rinaldo worked hard to support his wife and children so that they could have the best of everything. He always had a smile on his face when he spoke of his family. Rinaldo loved watching his children play sports, taking them fishing, and playing his guitar.
After graduating high school, Rinaldo attended UC Riverside where he obtained a bachelor’s degree while playing the sport he loved, Baseball. Rinaldo would return every year for Alumni baseball festivities.
Rinaldo had a passion to serve, and after graduating from UC Riverside he joined the United States Army. Rinaldo served in the 49th Military Police Brigade for seven years and served one tour in Irag during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
Rinaldo’s passion to serve continued after an Honorable discharge from the US Army, as he was hired as a Police Officer in the City of West Sacramento in 2007. During Rinaldo’s time at the West Sacramento Police Department he took on various roles including Assistant SWAT Team Leader, Field Training Officer, Bomb technician, and most recently as a Senior Lead Officer. As a Police Officer, Rinaldo had a profound impact on the Community of West Sacramento.
In February 2018, Rinaldo was diagnosed with Stage 1 Burkitt Lymphoma. Rinaldo stared cancer in the face and refused to back down. Hence the phrase #MONTYSTRONG was born. Rinaldo endured 6 grueling rounds of Chemotherapy and was declared cancer free in June 2018. Rinaldo had recently returned to full duty at the West Sacramento Police Department.
Rinaldo’s family has endured a grueling year, but nothing prepared them for his sudden, unexpected passing. Rinaldo impacted the lives of countless people throughout his 42 years here on earth. We ask that you keep the Monterrosa family in your thoughts and prayers. No monetary donation is too small, and every prayer helps. Thank you and God Bless.
