Samantha's Avon 39 Fundraiser
Hello friends, family, and anyone who may be reading this! As some of you may know, I have recently decided to particapte in the Avon Walk to End Breast Cancer on April 30th-May 1st. In 2013, my best friend and beautiful mother Penny Collings was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. In May of 2014, after 6 months of enduring treatments, my mother and I had the honor of attending the Avon walk to support our very close friend Celeste Bauer, who was walking in tribute to my mother. I remember so cleary, during the ending ceremony for the walkers, my mom turning to me and saying, "Next year we'll be crossing that finish line together, and you're not allowed to be embarrassed of my purple mowhawk". We spent a lot of time talking about the walk after that; Specifically arguing over the color that her newly grown hair would be by that time, and whether or not I would be seen with her in public with her mowhawk. But most of all, we talked about how amazing it would be for her to cross that finish line as a survivor. Unfortunatly, I no longer get to walk with a survivor, but with an angel watching over me instead. This year, after much contemplation due to my lack of training and preparation (or any sort of athletic skill at all if I'm being totally honest), I have finally decided that I'm going to walk the 39 miles. But as usual, my procrastination has gotten the best of me, and my late desicion to particapate in the walk has left me just about 3 weeks to raise a minimum of $1,800. All money will go directly to the Avon Foundation for Women, which provides breast cancer research and access to care. Any donation no matter how big or small would mean the absolute world to me. Also, any prayers, thoughts, positive vibes, ect, would be much appreciated throughout the walk- as most of you know, I am a musician, definitely not an athlete, so this could be pretty physically strenuous as well as emotionally, so your love and support would be more helpful than I can express. Much love to all of you.
