My best friend has cancer

It is with a heavy heart that I’ve decided to announce that my best friend has cancer. I’ve had Edison since he was 6 months old, and I still remember the first day I brought him home. He was scared, confused, lost, and alone amongst a group of strangers.
Needless to say, it only took a few weeks for that to change until he realized he was the golden child of my family. Nine months ago Edison developed a limp that would come and go during our long hikes in the woods. Eventually that limp turned into a lump, and that lump turned out to be a tumor. After my first visit to the vet I was told he may be suffering from an aggressive degenerative bone disease known as osteosarcoma. Luckily this did not turn out to be the case, however, it did turn out that he had developed a tumor within the soft tissue of his elbow that has slowly begun to eat away at the bone. The vet’s first inclination was full (front) limb amputation but naively I thought I could save Edison’s leg myself. After all, he was my dog and I’ve known him longer than any person on the planet. After visiting 3 holistic vets and trying out various home remedies, I’ve failed :(
As a strength & conditioning coach, I’m accustomed to helping my clients and athletes overcome physical obstacles and even undo previous injuries and alleviate existing pain. Unfortunately despite my efforts I could not do the same for Edison and it pains me.
This has been my biggest struggle to-date and for that reason I’ve realized that Edison needs professional help. Since diagnosis, Edison’s tumor has grown in size, and his limp still persists. He’s been walking on 3 paws for the past 9-11 months and it is for that reason that I’ve finally given into asking for help.
Edison has a scheduled pre-op visit September 3, 2019 where I will be able to further discus his options. I’ve been quoted an estimated cost of surgery between $4,000-5,000. If anyone is able and willing to help, it would mean the world to me. Any contribution would go a long way. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. God bless.
