Hi, my name is Aaron, I’m a college student seeking to
become an educator. During my second semester of my
junior year at Texas A&M University my peripheral vision started closing off which affected my overall vision. In
January of 2023 I went to see an eye doctor who referred
me to a neurologist. On Friday March 3rd, I was driving home from college station for my appointment,
unfortunately I was in a car accident due to my vision problems. When my parents picked me up, they noticed I was disoriented and having trouble with my coordination
and speaking. They then decided to take me to get an MRI, there they found out I had at least one tumor in my head. My parents then sprung into action and took me to
North Cypress Hospital, where I got another MRI, however we were told that the medical staff could not do anything
for me in the condition that I was. I was then flown by helicopter from North Cypress to Memorial Hermann
Hospital where we received the MRI results and found out I had an additional tumor and fluid in my head.
On March 6, I went under surgery, a biopsy was taken, and a VP shunt was placed in my head to help drain the fluid. One of the tumors is affecting my pituitary gland and vision, the other tumor is obstructing the natural drain of my brain. The biopsy concluded that I have two germ cell tumors. Following the surgery I went through many medical tests, and was diagnosed with: Obstructive Hydrocephalus, Central Hypogonadism, Central Hypothyroidism, Diabetes Insipidus, Adrenal Insufficiency, Tachycardia, Sepsis, Hypokalemia, Anemia, Acute Kidney Injury, and Nystagmus. Three days after surgery the doctor decided to start chemotherapy. Each cycle consists of 3 consecutive days of chemo. My oncologist recommended 8 cycles of chemotherapy totaling 24 sessions followed by 4 to 6 weeks of radiation Monday through Friday. The chemo has brought other problems to my immune system and hair loss. Once the chemo has significantly reduced the size of the tumors, they will then proceed with radiation to eliminate any remaining cells.
Throughout this entire process my family has had to stay away from home, in and out of the hospital, which has caused a financial burden. I am asking for any help if possible whether it’s a prayer or donation, to help cover medical expenses it will be greatly appreciated.
Once I am fully treated and free of my medical condition, I plan on transferring to UTRGV and finishing my bachelor’s degree, and becoming a high school math teacher to help struggling students in math.
