Please Support Judy's Fight Against Myeloma

Several weeks ago, Judy went into see her doctor as she was having headaches, back pain and overall just did not feel well. Her blood pressure was unusually high and the doctor ordered several blood tests and labs.
Less than two hours later she received a phone call from the doctor’s office that she should go directly to the emergency room, as her tests revealed that her kidneys were failing. Upon arrival, additional testing ensued, IV fluids were started, a blood transfusion was given, a bone marrow sample was taken and she was admitted to the hospital.
The results and diagnosis were determined quite quickly. She was diagnosed with stage 2 Multiple Myeloma (a somewhat rare blood cancer that develops in the bone marrow) and stage 4 kidney failure brought on by the Myeloma.
Luckily with the blood transfusion, IV fluids and medications, they were able to get the kidneys somewhat balanced and working without needing to start dialysis. She stayed in the hospital for the week and started her first chemo treatment while there.
Weekly chemo treatments will now continue for 16 weeks, followed by a Stem Cell transplant if all continues to go well. So far, the treatments have been going well with no major side effects or nausea.
Whether you know Judy from her childhood in northern Wisconsin, college at the UW Madison, her many years working in the hotel industry including the Radisson Hotel Madison and currently with North Central Group and Hilton Garden Inn Middleton, please consider helping Judy and her family during this time of need.
She continues to remain optimistic and hopeful with her two daughters: Isabel (16) and Zoe (12) still being her biggest priority. Kyle offers her his constant support and is taking very good care of her during this difficult time.
We'd like to support the Zeman’s by fundraising for medical assistance, and make sure that Judy's health and recovery is their primary focus.
Judy and her family are so very thankful and appreciative of the support and love they have received already from all of her family, friends and coworkers. They look forward to sharing good news with you all as her treatments and procedures continue this fall!
Basics of Multiple Myeloma
· Plasma cells in the blood become cancerous and produce large amounts of an antibody called M proteins
· This decreases the space for normal blood cells, causing anemia and impairing the immune system
· The myeloma activates other cells in the marrow that damage your bones and increases the risk of fractures.
· The excess M protein in the blood overworks the kidneys as they filter the blood. As a result, the kidneys may fail to function normally
· There is no cure for multiple myeloma; however, there are many treatment options to manage the disease that can potentially lead to a symptom-free life. Treatments are constantly advancing & there are many promising new therapies under investigation.
