2023년 11월, 헝가리를 방문하는 동안 Lim Chang Su는 부당하게 구금되고, 마드리드 북한 대사관 직원의 거짓 증언에 근거한 2019년 사건으로 인해 스페인에서 재판을 앞두고 있습니다. Lim Chang Su와 그의 동료들은 스페인에서 심각한 암살 위험에 처해 있습니다. 이는 언론 뿐 아니라 미국 연방수사국에서도 확인해주었으며, 미국 법원 또한 인정한 사실입니다. 북한의 ‘목격자’ 증언은 강요된 것이므로 채택할 수 없다는 미국 연방법원의 판단에도 불구하고 스페인은 여전히 기소를 진행하고 있습니다. 마드리드에서 벌어진 일에 대해 북한 정권은 거짓말을 할 수밖에 없습니다. Lim Chang Su의 목숨을 걸고 애초에 정당화할 수 없는, 그리고 열리지 않을 수도 있는 재판을 기다리며 그를 북한 공작원들의 암살 위험에 노출시키는 스페인의 행위는 비양심적인 것입니다.

Hungary has unjustly handed over a human rights activist to Spain, where the FBI has confirmed danger of assassination by North Korean agents. We urgently ask you to take action and help protect this brave man’s life from imminent danger.

While visiting Hungary in November 2023, Chang Su Lim was wrongfully detained and sent to stand trial in Spain for a 2019 case based on the false testimony of North Korean embassy staff in Madrid. Chang Su Lim and his colleagues are at serious risk of assassination in Spain–a fact that has been well documented in the press, confirmed by the FBI, and acknowledged by US courts.Spain continues to pursue prosecution knowing that North Korean “witness” testimony has been deemed inadmissible by a US federal judge, who calls North Korean statements “coerced” and “not competent”. The North Korean regime has reason to lie about what happened in Madrid. It is unconscionable that Spain would risk Chang Su Lim’s life and leave him at risk of assassination by North Korean agents waiting for a trial that should never have been justified to begin with, and may not happen.
