This July, the Shelby family received the difficult news that Marilyn was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. The world seemed to freeze, and all focus pivoted to doctor's appointments, treatment options, and navigating the scary world of cancer.

While their family is navigating this new normal, Marilyn (aka Shelby to everyone) has handled each step with grace and hope. She has been handling treatment with a warrior spirit and taking each step as they come.

She continues to show up daily for her students with disabilities, supporting their social, emotional, and academic needs with grace and love, even with all she is going through. She is STRONG and definitely has the (Waubonsie) Warrior spirit in her!

The family is beyond grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and well wishes given during this difficult time.

Knowing that there are so many people who love and see the magic in her that her family sees means more to them than anything. Above all else, we trust that she will show us what ‘fight like a girl’ really means.
