Open heart surgery for Emma
Donation protected
It's 2 a.m. and I am awake. I am about to do something that is beyond difficult for me. I am about to ask for help. I never ask for help.
Let me say, I am blessed with 4 children. My family is beautiful. I thank God for His blessings every day.
Three and a half years ago, I gave birth to a little girl. Emma Grace Coleman. She had a rough start. She was 9lbs 4oz and rushed by ambulance to the nearest NICU. She was diagnosed with a parilyzed vocal cord. She had some bleeding in her brain. Then we found out at 2 weeks old that she had 2 large holes in heart. They sent her home. Told us she would need open heart surgery to correct it.
This is Emma.
That first year of life was a blurr of Dr. appointments. She was a failure to thrive baby. At one year old she weighed 12lbs. A 3 lb gain in one year. She didn't grow. She was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At 2, she was diagnosed with an ectopic pituitary gland. They started her on growth hormone shots. She gets an injection everyday, but she is growing :)
When Emma was two, we had Abigail Mae. Her story is long and even more complicated. She was sent to Seattle Children's hospital the day after her birth and diagnosed with heterotaxy, polysplenia. She has had 2 open heart surgeries and a Ladds procedure on her intestines.
This is Abigail.
I am trying to keep this brief. My life for 3 years has been doctor after doctor. Endocrinologist, cardiologist, nutritionists, speech therapy, pediatrician, ear nose and throat, physical therapy, genetic testing. Feeding tubes, oxygen. Not for one, but for two children.
So now Emma is 3 and it's time for her surgery. They had to wait for her to grow and get bigger. Her heart has reached the danger zone. She goes to Seattle on May 11 for pre op. And her Surgery is on the 12th. HERE is where i need help. To cover my husbands time off. He has to take almost 2 weeks off work. That's $1,000 of income that will be missed. And for a medical bill. Emma and Abigail see their cardiologist often (almost monthly). He charges $1,500 for one visit. We have one bill for $1,200 that has gone to collections and we have been sued for it (that is the embarrassing part and so hard for me to admit to the world).
Seattle Children's is almost a 10 hour drive from my house in stevensville, MT. It's not easy to make a trip like that. The food and cost alone is beyond our capabilities as a one income family.
So if you can donate a dollar or five. I would be grateful. and i might be able to sleep at night.
Thank you for taking time to read this.
