Saturday afternoon, we realized that Arya wasn’t acting herself. She wouldn’t jump onto the bed or couch to take her usual nap, and she wouldn’t go up or down the stairs. She usually gets excited about going out for a walk, but she didn’t seem to care this time. That night, around 4 am, we woke up to Arya crying in pain and discomfort. She was able to take a couple of steps, but her back legs were giving out. We took her to the animal emergency room, where they told us to have her on strict bed rest for two weeks, but if it worsens, take her to the Pet ER in Towson to see a neurologist. Monday morning, we realized that Arya was worse. She was unable to walk, dragging both her back legs while trying to move; she was crying with every movement; she couldn’t take any steps anymore. We brought her into the Pet ER, where a neurologist saw her. We were given the news that a disc bulge was the cause of her paralysis and pain. A lot of Frenchies are prone to this type of injury. The neurologist explained that surgery would not help her situation. After that call, we tried very hard to prepare ourselves to put her to sleep to end her pain and be at peace. She’s a rescue dog; we rescued her almost a year and a half ago when she was at her lowest, broken ribs and orbital bone, malnourished, and extremely abused by the people that abandoned her and used her for breeding. She’s been through so much we didn’t want her to keep suffering. This morning we received a call saying she is doing slightly better than yesterday. She is able to put slight weight on her back legs with a lot of help, which is giving us some hope. Currently, she is staying at the animal hospital, where she is being treated and cared for. They do not know if she will get better or worse but are praying and holding on to hope. We would greatly appreciate any help at all to cover the cost of the hospital bills/treatment. Thank you again, and pray for our baby.
