Help Roundy Family with Flood Losses
Donation protected
Less than a week after moving from Maine to New Jersey, Renée and Barbara Roundy lost most of their belongings when their apartment flooded during Hurricane Ida. Thankfully, all humans and pets are safe. Renée was away at the time of flooding, and Barbara walked through chest-high water to reach the emergency rescue. The ordeal was very stressful, as the electricity was still on in the apartment and the water was quickly rising toward the electrical outlets. Barbara was able to rescue her cat, and a local humane society rescued Renée's dog a few hours later. The dog had not wanted to leave Renée's bed even as Barbara desperately called to her.
The family has already spent a great deal of money on travel, supplies for survival, and hotel fees. Renée and Barbara do not yet know if they will be able to move back in or if they will have to find another apartment, but it will take at least a month for the apartment to be cleaned out and evaluated for damages.
All money raised will go toward mattresses and furniture, clothes, possibly a few instruments that sustained significant damage, and other necessary supplies. The family is asking for $5000, and I think we should raise $7000. I did get permission from the family to raise money on this platform. I am friends with the family, and the money will go directly into Anita and Curtis Roundy's bank account.
Dealing with such loss is never easy. Adding a major transition in both women's lives complicates it further. After teaching in Lewiston Public Schools the last year and a half, Renée had just moved to NJ to begin her post-grad at Rutgers. Barbara just graduated from Colgate and is searching for a job.
The Roundy family survived homelessness in Lewiston with five children, and they continue to give to others around them all the time. They are one of the most generous families I know. It is our time to help them with the necessary funds to get back on their feet.
If you are not able to give money at this time, the Roundys would greatly appreciate your prayers.
Thank you!
