March began with Maximus when we had to give permission to amputate a leg due to a nasty wound that refused to heal. Two cats were then diagnosed with Entropion, a painful condition where the eyelids turn inwards. Normally we have no more than 3-4 of these each year so 2 in the same month is exceptional. A third cat also needed a serious operation on an eye.
Treatments like these are what we are all about and we are proud to think how well we are known for our work with vulnerable and elderly cats. But four costly operations, countless hours of care as well as another cat who needed repeated emergency treatment due to a serious diabetic complication on top of our normal monthly costs has really stretched us.
Kitten season has barely begun and the calls concerning roaming toms, pregnant queens and abandoned litters are already starting to come in. With such a serious strain already on our funds we are very concerned how this will affect our ability to support so many of them together with the regular collection of waifs and strays over the coming few months.
