Help Support the Rogers Family
Joseph "Roy" Rogers has recently been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and was airlifted from Sydney to Halifax. It is a glioblastoma (brain cancer). Roy will be going back to Sydney when they feel he is ready, and will start a program of targeted radiation and chemotherapy to hopefully reduce the tumour (or at least stop its rapid progression).
His family, including his daughters Katelynn Head (nee Carter-Rogers) and Tracey Carter-Rogers, live in Halifax, and are doing their best to comfort and support their father amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
When Roy returns to Cape Breton, both Katelynn and Tracey will be travelling there to help care for him for an extended period, and then back and forth from Halifax to Cape Breton many times once travel restrictions are lifted.
We are asking for any kind of support you can give to help provide this family with one less stressor during this extremely distressing time.
Katelynn is a small business owner, and operates on contract work. It is likely that caring for her father will disrupt her ability to take on as many contracts as she normally would. For those of you who know Katelynn intimately, you also know that her husband Jody suffered a debilitating work injury in early December 2018 and has been in recovery ever since, thus making Katelynn the primary care provider of her family. Tracey holds a managerial position within a restaurant, and her travelling will likely require time-off, use of sick days, or unpaid leave as well as self-isolation.
Please consider supporting this family in anyway you can during this tragic time.
**DISCLAIMER: No one in the Rogers' family has asked me to set up this gofundme. I have personally known Katelynn for a number of years, and have been witness to how supportive she is to family, friends, and anyone she meets in her community. It is now time for us to step up for this family.
Here is Katelynn's most recent update on Joseph's status:
Dad Update:
So I debated if I would give an informative update, but since my Dad made a post, I figured I would give insight into what the Doctors told me this morning.
So Dad has glioblastoma. It is brain cancer. Right now he is healing from his biopsy, the hospital is working with him to help with his senses and his balance. He will be going back to Sydney when they feel he is ready, and will start radiation and chemotherapy.
I will most likely be spending some time down in cape breton to make sure that he is able to get to all his appointments, and that he is comfortable.
Our family is upset, but we know that Dad is strong and he's been extremely positive about doing his treatments. The steroids have been doing what they need to do. Thanks everyone.
