We are raising funds for our daughter Kitty who is 5. Kitty has cerebral palsy, is blind and globally delayed as a result of brain damage just after birth.
Kitty's Story.....
Kitty is one of identical twins, who were born at 30 weeks old. I developed Twin to Twin Transfusion whilst pregnant and had to have an operation to correct it with 50 percent chance of survial to the girls. Miraculously they survived only for my waters to go at 27 weeks. 3 long weeks later in hospital they were born very poorly with sepsis. Seperated into different hospitals and both very poorly they were treated with antibiotics. Kitty came off her antibiotics early as she presented as well, what we didn't know was that the infection was just lying dormant. 10 days later just after being reunited with her twin, Kitty rapidly became unwell. After 3 awful days she had to be transferred to St Marys and put in an induced coma. We were told to prepare for the worst that night and that she was the poorliest child in the hospital. We found out later the infection had spread to the brain causing meningitis and resulting in seizures. Being the fighter she is she pulled through, however being so ill had caused severe brain damage. When she was finally discharged home I realised she wasn't tracking anything with her eyes. We quickly realised she had cerebral visual impairment, a common cause of blindness in children caused by brain damage but relatively unheard of. The brain damage also caused diaplegic cerebal palsy and other conditions such as self-destructive sensory behaviour. Over the years and with lots and lots of research we have found the best therapies to help Kitty. She wouldn't be where she is without hundreds of sessions of physio, mostly funded by Kitty's Fund. She has music therapy for her speech and numerous other things.
After family and friends commenting on wanting to help we set up a fund specifically for Kitty to pay for therapy, treatments, equiptment and special needs toys...all which are extremely expensive especially with 3 other children to provide for.
This fund is a way for people to contribute directly to Kitty's development.
If you would like to follow Kitty's progress you can find her page on
facebook called "Kitty's Journey"
With lots of thanks from Kitty and family. X
