Help Amia get to New York YAGP
Donation protected
Hello my name is Amia Mason and I am 15 years old. I am a ballet dancer and have been training under the direction of Tim Podesta at the Regional Academy of Performing Arts since 2010, when I first started dancing. I am very passionate about dance and I dedicate a lot of time towards my training, with a hectic schedule of 8 hours a day which includes cardio/strengthening, ballet technique class, pointe class, classical variations, contemporary and stretch. I then come home and do my year 11 studies via Distance education in the evenings. A major part of being a ballet dancer is being on pointe. Because of the vigorous training I do, I am currently going through at least 2 pairs of pointe shoes a month, each pair costing over $100.
In November 2015 I had the opportunity to audition for the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world. You need to attain the mark of 95% or higher to qualify for the finals. With an audition number of over 6000 people around the world competing to achieve that mark, I am pleased to announce that I have been invited to compete in the YAGP finals on the 22nd - 29th of April 2016 in New York city.
Not only wilI I get the opportunity to compete, I will also be doing workshops, scholarship classes and perform in the Grand Defile throughout the competition. An exciting part of YAGP is that there will be talent scouts from different dance schools around the world, offering positions/scholarships to ballet dancers that show potential. I hope to make Albury/Wodonga and the whole of Australia proud as I compete in this international competition.
I would really appreciate any financial assistance which will help pay for pointe shoes, flights, accomodation, food and transport as this is a very costly experience. Thank you for taking the time to read this and support me on my journey. I will be very greatful for any donations no matter how small, each little bit helps. I am looking forward to embracing this challenge and working towards my dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer.
Love,
Amia.
