I never imagined I would be in a position where I’d need to ask for help like this, and I’m truly sorry to have to do so. But I’m asking out of love for my cat Scout, because I’m not ready to give up on her.

Scout is only 18 months old, and I’ve had her since the day she was born. She is the most affectionate, cuddly, characterful little soul, and she means the world to me. Right now, she is desperately ill and fighting for her life.

Today, Scout was admitted to the vets where she has had fluids, blood tests, and an ultrasound. Based on the results so far, it is strongly suspected that she has FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). Further blood work has been sent to a specialist this evening to confirm the diagnosis.

If this is confirmed, Scout will need to remain in the veterinary hospital for at least 7 days, followed by an intensive 84 day course of antiviral medication. The medication alone costs approximately £2,000, and when combined with hospitalisation, diagnostics, and ongoing care, the total cost of treatment will amount to several thousand pounds.

As a full-time student, I simply don’t have the means to cover these costs on my own. The hardest part of all is being told that if I don’t proceed with treatment, the vets would have to recommend immediate euthanasia.

Scout is so young, and she still has so much life and love ahead of her. We lost her brother just four months ago, and the thought of losing another cat so young is utterly heartbreaking.
