Our little girl has been a survivor from the beginning. At 8 weeks of pregnancy, my wife suffered from a hetero-topic pregnancy while visiting our family in Chicago, all while I was still at our home in Southern Illinois for work purposes. What this means is she experienced one pregnancy in the uterus and one in the fallopian tube. The tube ruptured, and I nearly lost my wife to internal bleeding. Surgeons here in Northwest Indiana saved not only my wifes life but my daughters (the pregnancy in the uterus) life as well. After a 4 week recovery time, we were able to return to Southern Illinois thinkng all was now well and we had dodged a bullet. Fast forward to 36 weeks of pregnancy, and my wife returned to Chicago to ultimatley deliver here on account of the hospital here knowing the circumstances. Unfortunatley, this is when we were hit with the devastating news that our child had a life threatening birth defect known as a Diaphragmatic Hernia, a hole in Diaphragm that allowed her internal organs to enter her chest cavity greatly affecting her lung and heart development. We sought care at Lurie Childrens Hospital in Chicago, IL. They could not have been more amazing. The level of preparation they did in such a short time and the amount of comfort they provided to us was nothing short of astounding. We were told to expect a 3 month stay in the NICU. My daughter was born earlier this month and had to experience a major surgery on day 2 of life. The surgery went well, and she is recovering better than could have been expected. Due to the severity of the diagnosis, she will require ongoing care here in Chicago. It is my mission to ensure that is possible with no hinderance, so I have decided to relocate my family back to Chicago. I have been on unpaid leave for almost a month, and obviously bills are stacking up. I hate to ask for handouts or assistance, but I have to put my pride aside to make sure my children have the best life possible and my daughter in particular receives the best medical care possible. The assistance im asking for would go towards my daughters medical bills, relocation costs, and any bills we have fallen behind on due to the lack of pay. Any help no matter the size is appreciated more than I can describe. I just want to do the right thing for my family.
