About Milo’s Journey

Milo (he/they) is a Southeast Asian, queer individual who has been working toward gender affirmation for years. In 2018, Milo began their transition—coming out to friends and family, starting hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and finding supportive communities were all pivotal moments in that process.

For a long time, Milo has dreamed of having top surgery, a step that is essential for them to feel more comfortable and at home in their body. In 2022, Milo legally changed his name and updated their gender marker—another powerful milestone in affirming their identity.

After careful thought, Milo has decided to move forward with top surgery scheduled for June 2025. This surgery is a crucial step in Milo’s journey to fully align with their gender identity and live more freely in their truth.

Unfortunately, the procedure is only partially covered by insurance, and access to affordable, gender-affirming care remains limited—especially for queer people of color. The systemic barriers in place often make this journey more complicated, emotionally taxing, and isolating.

Why We Need Your Help

To make this surgery possible, Milo needs to raise funds to cover various out-of-pocket expenses, including pathology fees, surgery and anesthesia costs, facility fees, and recovery supplies. While we’ve been actively seeking scholarships and support from community-based organizations, the financial burden remains a significant challenge.
