This is my best friend Amanda Bennett. She is 27years old and if you’ve had the pleasure to meet her you’d know already she has the heart that loves unconditionally and gives everything and everyone her all. I want to try and take some stress off her shoulders and ease her mind from the financial burden this has created for her.
This is where we need your support. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a meaningful difference in Amanda’s journey towards recovery.
In January 2018 Amanda was diagnosed with AlH (Autoimmune hepatitis),PBC (primary biliary cholangitis), Cirrhosis, Ulcerative Colitis, Iron Deficiency - Anemia, and Splenomegaly. There are many different liver diseases but for Amanda, by the time she found it, the scarring that had occurred was irreversible.
Last year was the first year that she experienced slight Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE) which was absolutely terrifying for all of us. Cirrhosis can impact how your body removes toxins and you can get a build up of ammonia in your brain which basically just impacts brain function.
Ascites is another complication Amanda has, which causes swelling in your legs and stomach, which can unfortunately make some people look pregnant when they aren't.
The type of disease that Amanda has is rare (less than 200,000 diagnoses per year) and there is no known cause for it.
Cirrhosis is the last stage of fibrosis and it's irreversible and there's no treatment that cures it.
The symptoms range from chronic fatigue and pain, joint pain, weight loss, weight gain, abnormal blood vessels to fluid retention.
Amanda sees 6 different specialists.
- she receives infusions every 6-8 weeks.
- Nerve blocks every 3 months.
- Endoscopy & colonoscopy recurring every 6 months for monitoring.
- labwork every 3 Weeks.
- Monthly appointments with chronic care team to manage health.
On February 1st,2024 Amanda drove herself to the E.R. At Vanderbilt with trouble breathing,no appetite, fatigue, and coughing up mucus. She’s stayed in the hospital many times these past few years, normally from 3days to 2weeks. This time was different and we were all worried and praying everyday for her to fight through this.
She was admitted for 30days and released back to her home still under watch with oxygen tanks and nurse visits 3times a day.she went in with Pneumonia & covid and within 2days in the E.R. her oxygen level dropped drastically within minutes her oxygen levels were 60% and she was rushed to the icu in Vanderbilt Hospital.
They treated her only to find she now had a Bacterial Infection which followed up with Pneumonia Again. Amanda’s body was tired and drained. She fought hard everyday and we prayed and prayed for her recovery. God is good and she is home now. She has just began to take her first steps in over a month and she is still on oxygen tanks. She is not cleared to return to work for now. Please help me give Amanda relief from financial worries and let her focus on her health and getting better.
Thank You!
