Gavin's healing journey

Hi, my name is Vega and I am the Fiancé of Gavin Hammerberg. On March 11, last month our lives were forever changed. Gavin had been at work at a new job he was excited to have when he accidentally got a caustic chemical poured onto his face. He was rushed to a hospital, as his face eyes and arms had been soaked in this acid. He was covered with 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his entire face, in both of his eyes, on his eyelids and arms. He will likely be scarred for the rest of his life. While he has recovered some vision in his right eye, he has not made much progress with his left that has been left legally blind.

Since this visit we have had to spend many nights in hospitals and 2x weekly visits a state away to the best eye doctors in the country in Chicago at IUC. These are the experts of the eye field and they have stated they have never dealt with eye burns on this level and this is an extremely severe case. His vision will be impacted for the rest of his life.

We were just informed yesterday that Gavin will have to undergo a still very new type of eye surgery to try to restore blood to his eye, as his left eye has begun deteriorating itself, causing no blood flow to the eye and has halted all progress in healing.

The reason we are asking for help; The cherry on top of this awful cake is that his workplace has denied any responsibility for the accident, leaving us to turn to need legal help. We have secured lawyers at this time but are drowning in costs. Gavin was the main breadwinner of our family and this has left us in financial crisis, where we are struggling to keep our house and utility bills, groceries, and to pay to get the medicines that he needs. I have had to take time from work to get him to his appointments as well.

This injury has taken his means of work and means to take care of himself. He needs assistance with most things. His driving, and much of his hobbies and interests such as reading, games with his friends, hiking with our dog and tv hae been taken away from him. We have also very unfortunately canceled our wedding that was planned for this year, as we are trying our best to focus on his health and recovery.
