Hey everyone! I want to tap into your kindness and generosity once again for a project that will make a difference in the lives of some very special people.
If you've followed my adventures over the past nine years you know that there is a special place in my heart for the people of San Juan de la Concepcion, Nicaragua and the unbelievable work of my dear friend Paulette Goudge at La Mariposa Spanish School and Eco-Hotel and recently a new non profit organization called Asociacion Tierra that seeks among other things to serve the needs of disabled children in and around the community.
One of those amazing children is a boy named Brian, yes that's right, Brian. Despite my obvious bias, what makes him amazing is not his name but the incredible progress he has made since I first met him a few years ago when I brought him a walker from my church to help him get around. That simple gift has helped him to take some significant steps in facing the challenge of living with cerebral palsy.
I'm pleased to say that due in no small part to his determination coupled with the support and love of grandparents with whom he lives and the encouragement and help of our friends at La Mariposa and Asociacion Tierra he is thriving! When I saw him last summer he was literally a different person than when I first met him. He is excelling in his classes and is even learning English. He dreams of being a journalist and I have no doubt that given the chance he will succeed beyond what anyone of us could imagine.
As I mentioned, Brian lives with his grandparents in La Concepcion. He does so because his parents simply weren't able to care for him. His grandparents are not presently working, not out of choice but because there simply are not jobs to be had.
Which is where you can help. Among other issues, Which is where you can help. Among other issues, Brian's home is simply not adequate for his needs. What we hope to do is to is to make getting around the house more accesible for him and in so doing make life a bit easier for everyone.
So, I invite you to consider making a gift to help Brian and his family face these basic challenges so that he can continue to excel.
Money raised will provide materials. lumber and necessary hardware along labor to be carried out by local carpenters which is another way to help the community. Also included in this amount is a plane ticket for me to go and report back as the ball begins to get rolling. Any extra funds will be donated to Ascociacion Tierra for other similar projects.
I'm planning to head to Nicaragua a couple weeks after Easter so I'm hoping to raise the money by then. Thank you for taking the time to consider my invitation to make a real difference in the life of a boy named Brian.
