SF-LA Ride 545

Donation protected
From May 31st to June 6th I’ll be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

I believe in life changing experiences. Losing a loved one is certainly a life changing experience and something, myself and the many affected by HIV have experienced. The money I help raise can impact those who rely on services offerd by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center and in turn help prevent losing a partner and loved one. This bike ride means the world to those who receive treatment as a result of this event, and your support means the world to me.

A few reasons why this ride is important to me:

-I lost my Uncle, Chris Deroy, to complications of HIV in 1994. He lived in L.A. and I can only recall meeting him once.. I was 9 when he passed.  In an effort to learn more about him, I found out that he was active in the gay community. He wass an activist who marched for gay rights in Washington and was apart of a UCLA research on those living with HIV. He truly gave himself to the cause of finding a cure -- all while he hid his diagnosis from his family for 10 years. Learning he had to hide his diagnosis makes me want to fight for him, so I'm helping in a way I can connect with him and the cause.

-Life changing experience: I've lost a few close friends (not from HIV) and have always been able to connect with them through things we were all passionate about. Surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding. You may not see cycling in there, but the three all have the same thing in common with cycling -- a journey. I miss the days of traveling with them to enjoy our passions, connecting through the sport, and enjoying the journey that comes with it. This is my homage to Michael Zombeck and Kenton Dornbush (who also made the ride from SF to LA - outside of ALC).

-Cycling is an amazing workout and its usually accompanied by an equally amazing view, I've leaned on cycling to help get me in shape for my wedding later this year. What a better way to cap off training with a visually stunning journey down the coast.

Help me make an impact in others lives by donating what you can. Will you help me support this life saving cause?
