Alysha and Steve's baby girls' heart journey

Donation protected
Hi everyone, this is recap of Madison’s heart journey. When Madison was in utero around 22 weeks, Steve and alysha were called with some shocking news about their babies heart. They were told their unborn daughter had hypoplastic right heart syndrome, tricuspid atresia, and pulmonary atresia (essentially only the left side of Madison’s heart was showing to work in the many echocardiograms they went through). With this diagnosis they were given 3 options because if steps weren’t taken after Madison was born she would pass. The 3 options were to terminate the pregnancy, allow Madison to be born and pass naturally, or follow three step open heart surgeries to reroute her heart to work off of the left side. Steve and Alysha chose to fight for Madison and give her the life she deserves. Unfortunately when Madison was born Dec 24th, they were thrown a few extra hurdles to help Maddi overcome. Madison was born with polydactyly, and syndactyly, what this means is Madison was born with (the cutest little hands) but all of her fingers were webbed completely together and she has 6 of them. She also has 6 toes as well, which eventually she will need to have a surgery on. If that wasn’t hard enough to accept and over come, Christmas Day brought some more devastating news that Steve and Alysha did not expect. They were told the 3 step surgeries Madison was suppose to have is not possible anymore because their baby girls heart has far more problems with it than the doctors had seen in the imaging. Those extra findings would not allow the surgeons to operate successfully, at that point they were at a stand still with Madison’s treatment and options. A heart transplant was mentioned, but extensive genetic testing, as well as a brain mri, ct scan, X-rays needed to happen before they would find out if Madison was a candidate for a transplant. They waited a long 9 days to find out that Madison will be put on the transplant list next week. With this comes a lot more unexpected costs, for Alysha + Steve. They could be waiting months in Toronto for a heart for their daughter. Steve was suppose to go back to work, but this time is extremely precious with Madison, so for now he’s staying in Toronto to support his two girls. Alysha is also self employed, and is not eligible for mat leave, sick leave ei etc. The food expenses staying in a hospital all day long, parking expenses, etc, while they are both off work will add up. There has been a lot of people that have sent help to these three and both Alysha and Steve are so thankful for that! Please share this and if anyone can help, even a small bit helps in a big way. Thanks ♥️
