Bugger Off Hunt
Our lovely friend, Lynne Roper, has recently been diagnosed with a malignant tumour nicknamed (not very affectionately) 'Hunt'. She is, as she always does, rising to this challenge with spirit and gusto, and her blog tracks her progress and experiences as well as highlighting the effect on real people that cuts to NHS funding are having. You can read that blog at http://outofmybrains.org.. it will make you think and laugh in equal measure.
Lynne awaits surgery to remove Hunt and that, the follow on treatment and recovery will be arduous. She will not be able to work for sometime, and has had to relinquish her driving licence for at least 2 years. Her health had already forced her to give up her job as a paramedic, so her financial situation was already precarious... Hunt's invasion has made that situation worse.
Lynne is a woman who has always given freely of her warmth, wisdom, knowledge, time and laughter. Given that it is no surpise to me that several people have contacted me asking whether they can make some sort of financial contribution to help alleviate the day to day stress of paying bills etc so that she can feel as secure as possible while she recovers.
The best way to manage those offers is to provide a safe, secure and easy way for people to offer that practical help if they so choose. The target is absolutely spurious, that isn't what this is about, but I can't set this up without a campaign target.
Lynne will be able to access any donations directly, or her family will on her behalf, and the purpose of the campaign is simply to provide a vehicle for those who wish to offer this kind of practical assistance to do so if they wish. It isn't a begging letter, and there is no pressure to contribute. But if you had thought of something like this, and didn't know how to go about it, then this is for you.
I know that Lynne is already so buoyed by the love and support all those who care about her - and there are very many of you - have shown, and that will continue to be the thing that matters most to her. I am sure of that.
