Several parts of the Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu  districts have  been heavily flooded due to heavy rainfall.  Over 50,000 people have been  affected in the flooding and several thousands  have been evacuated from their homes. 

The heavy rainfall affected the districts of Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Mannar, Vavuniya and Jaffna.     All the sluice gates of the Iranaimadhu Tank have already been opened and a large number of families have been displaced.  This has affected more than 1400 families within the Puthukudiyiruppu division.

People have been placed in welfare centres in Kombavil and in the Visuvamadu High School. A large number of people have also been sheltered in the Kilinochchi Kumarasamipuram School. 

Manvaasanai Canada is a non profit organization that works for the rehabilitation, resettlement and reconstruction of those affected by the war, and  the disadvantaged, particularly women and children. Its purpose is to give the help and HOPE needed to those affected by the war by helping them to raise their level of income, engage them in sustainable projects and empower them, at the same time as promoting social and gender equality.
