On December 5th, my husband Richard fell and broke his neck, and has since been in the ICU. When I got that call, my heart sank. Immediately I feared our life together was going to be ripped apart. I didn’t want to lose my best friend, my husband, a man I love more than I can put into words. I thought about our kids (11-year old Caden and 3-year old Avery), and how they can’t grow up without their daddy. His children need him, his family needs him, I need him. I prayed like I have never prayed before.
The amazing thing is that he survived and is not paralyzed, but he will have to undergo a high-risk surgery, once the surgeons have cleared him for surgery. The concern is that the surgery is very intrusive, involving two arteries that go directly to the brain, and the surgeons are concerned about Richard having a major stroke. Unfortunately, while in the ICU, due to some clots breaking up, Richard has had some mini strokes that have messed with his vision and balance. The good news is that his vitals are good and we hope he will be cleared for surgery soon. Richard has escaped death by the grace of God so many times in the past two weeks; so we believe God is not done with Richard yet. Understandably, we are all scared, but praying and asking God for a successful surgery and full recovery. Richard is in good spirits, and he really appreciates getting messages and visitors. He is alert, but not able to move much, and is still in a lot of pain.
His surgeon has been a total blessing and is incredible. However, he did let us know that although we can expect Richard to make a full recovery, he will not be cleared to work for at least a year.
This has been the most painful experience in my life. It is still hard to eat and sleep right now. Family and friends have reached out to me (thank you) and asked what they could do. First and foremost, Richard, the family and I all need your prayers. We believe that God can use this terrible situation for His glory, and as a powerful testimony for Richard. But due to him not being able to work, and the medical expenses that will likely be beyond our imagination, as well as every-day living expenses; we can also use your financial support. If you feel prompted to, we would appreciate anything you can give to help us, as Richard begins his road to recovery. Thank you so much!
