Get Dad Home
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Katie. I am fundraising for my father Mike, "Curly" to most. My dad had decided to retire to Yucatan, Mexico to be near the ocean, which he so loved.
On March 30th, he was found unconscious in his home and was rushed to Centro Medico Americano in Progreso. He was diagnosed to be in a hypoglycemic coma. The prognosis was dire. Miraculously, 6 days later he regained consciousness but has significant brain damage and trouble communicating. He cannot walk, has extreme difficulty speaking and is on a feeding tube. He will require 24/7 medical attention and advanced care for the rest of his life.
According to the hospital, he is cleared for a commercial flight home to the states as early as Easter Sunday, provided he is under a doctor's care. In order for him to be discharged from the hospital however, his bill must be paid in full. He has no insurance and Medicare will not help. We also have the cost of the traveling doctor, a three hour ambulance ride from Progreso to Cancun and two direct international flights. Additionally, we discovered that his Mexican visa had expired so there are also fees for that.
This has been an emotional, logistical and financial nightmare for my family. We have exhausted our resources and are desperately asking for help. We want to get him home to get the care that he needs
