January 28, 1996 - - - Molly and I were given the shocking news that her surgeon found Ovarian Cancer in her abdomen during the course of an otherwise routine gall bladder removal operation. Following extensive surgery and courses of chemotherapy, she was declared to be in remission and, after 5 years, her oncologist began to use the word “cured”.
As some of you might recall, on the 10th anniversary of her diagnosis, we held a surprise celebration party at Diamond Jim Brady’s restaurant in Novi and, beyond our wildest dreams, raised $10,000 which was donated to for Ovarian Cancer research.
Now, as we approach Molly’s 20th anniversary, we want to honor her phenomenal survival by once again trying to raise as much as we can to donate to the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance. Although we are not able to throw a party this year, we still want to help battle this dreaded disease and spread the word that the scientific community is making real progress and can one day promise all who are diagnosed a real dose of hope that they can be as blessed as Molly and me.
100% of donations here will be sent to the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance (“MIOCA”), a Michigan based 501©(3) non-profit which provides information, resources and support services, as well as advocacy for increased research and access to care. These fine folks are the ones who festoon towns like Royal Oak and Northville in teal ribbons every September for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Of course, we know you could make these donations directly, but by combining the efforts of many throughout the vast social network we can spread the word faster and farther and, together, have a greater impact in the size of our contribution. No matter how small or large any amount will help in the fight.
So to celebrate this 20 year anniversary, please forward this message to all you know and take a moment to log in to the website and give whatever you can to support the effort of this cause.
Molly and I know how lucky we are and hope your help will bring a large measure of satisfaction in your life.
Thanks so much,
Phil
