On July 12th, 2025, John underwent a double lung transplant—a life-saving surgery that marks the beginning of a long and challenging road to recovery.

In October 2023, John was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a rare and progressive lung disease with no cure. The disease causes irreversible scarring of the lungs and, in many cases like John's, leads to complete respiratory failure without a transplant.

From March to July 2025, John’s condition worsened rapidly. He was hospitalized multiple times and placed on the transplant waiting list, relying on oxygen and constant medical support while waiting for a donor match. The transplant came just in time, but the journey is far from over.

John is self-employed and, due to his medical condition, has been unable to work for several months. He also has no health insurance coverage, leaving his family to face medical expenses, ongoing treatment costs, and the high price of travel and accommodations to and from the hospital.

Recovery from a double lung transplant typically takes 12 months or more, during which John will continue to be out of work and require specialized care, medications, and frequent follow-up visits.
