Help The Johnson Family Conquer Stage 4 Cancer!
Donation protected
The Johnson family is so strong and in the past couple months have had their faith and strength tested beyond what they ever thought. But through all they have gone through, rely on the wonderful strength of prayers and healing through Christ as they tackle a new hurdle. They are a family of 6 - Evon, Angela, Jessica, Bryce, Corey, and Alyssa and ask you to join with us and offer prayers on their behalf.
Early this year, Angela started having severe back pain and sought treatment from her chiropractor. After adjustments and stretching with no relief, her chiropractor decided it was time to do X-rays and an MRI. She received the jaw dropping news that she had cancer the first week of August. Metastatic mucinous adenocarcinoma. These last few weeks of doctors appointments, endless waiting periods, receiving a diagnosis, undergoing 5 days of radiation, and starting chemotherapy have taken the Johnson family on a whirlwind of emotions.
We started this fund in hopes of lightening the heavy burden of finances during this time. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this new trial in their lives.
A little backstory on their family's medical history. Angela was diagnosed almost 20 years ago with Ulcerative Colitis. She has gone through the downs and really far downs of that disease. Angela had surgery in 2016 to remove her colon and in turn get an ileostomy bag. They were able to do a reversal surgery the beginning of 2017 to reverse the ileostomy and have a j-pouch.
After some more medical trials, Angela was placed on the UNOS transplant list in December of 2019. She was at the top of the list for her blood type to receive a new liver. She miraculously received the call and had a donor just a few short months later in March. She traveled to and stayed in Salt Lake for her surgery and post-transplant care. She was able to go back to Boise about 6 weeks later but ended up jumping a few hurdles and being life lighted back to her team of doctors in Utah a couple times.
Covid was extra nerve wracking for the Johnson family not only because of Angela recovering from her transplant, but also because their daughter Alyssa has a compromised airway.
Alyssa’s trials started back when she was 3 years old, she had surgery to have her tonsils and adenoids removed. It seemed to go well until about a month later when she had completely lost her voice and her family could only read her lips. She had 45 surgeries before she was even 8 years old to try to remove scar tissue from her airway, clean out her sinuses and separate her vocal cords that had become fused together.
On November 17, 2016, Alyssa woke up having a hard time breathing. She went into
her parents' room and began a breathing treatment. Moments later, she stopped breathing. Her dad, Evon, rushed her to the hospital where she arrived with no pulse. The emergency room staff did CPR to revive her. She was intubated and sedated, then was transported to a local children's hospital where she remained in a medically sedated coma for a few days. It was a very scary time for her family as it wasn't clear yet what, if any, organs were affected by the lack of oxygen. The decision was made the next day that she needed to have a tracheostomy - surgery to bypass her narrow airway via a hole in her neck.
In 2017 the Johnson family started their journey with the airway hospital in Cincinnati. Little did they know they would be traveling there every few months still to this day in 2023. Angela will finish this round of chemotherapy and head straight to take Alyssa to Cincinnati for her doctor to do a surgery to check the progress of her trach.
As you can tell, the Johnson family has been through a lot medically. We are grateful for your prayers and ask you to continue to pray and support this amazing family. The money will go towards medical bills, traveling expenses (most of her doctors appointments will be out of Utah, but she will be able to receive treatment in Boise), and help with finances as Evon may need to take time off.
