On the evening of October 16th I found Charlie seriously hurt outside my home. There was no evidence of what had happened, just that he was seriously hurt. I rushed him to VMTH emergency where it became apparent that he likely was hit by a car. Since I found him curled up by my fence, he either dragged himself back to our house or someone stopped to relocate him from the road—either way though, the driver didn’t bother to contact me (Charlie had on his tag). It’s been 3 days in the hospital and he has a pelvic fracture, abdominal hernia, and major tissue damage. He will need to be in the hospital for weeks I am told. Charlie is a special cat: he serves as the genetic control for the UC Davis’ Veterinary Genetics Lab’s Selkirk Rex test. He is valuable to the veterinary community as well as my family! I don’t know how I am going to pay his mounting bills but at only 5, he deserves a fighting chance. Please consider helping Charlie continue on his long toad to recovery. Once he comes home, we will have a safe and secure Catio for him to get outdoor time in.No more free outdoor playtime for him!
