Susi Christiansen Memorial Fund
Susi Christiansen was a brave woman with a bold smile - one that seemed so constant you would never have known just how fragile her health was. She never tried to be the center of attention. Instead, she put her focus on making sure those around her also felt the joy that shined from within her.
Up until her last moments in life, Susi spent most of her time and energy focused on others. She defied medical odds over and over again, fighting terminal cancer for more than five years. Susi's drive to live was fueled not only by her love of life and laughter, mostly, she knew that she had a lot to live for.
Susi was the mother of three young children, who have spent most of their young lives with a mother who was fighting for her life. But often, they wouldn't know just how dire her pain or condition was. Susi made every effort to be the best, most present mom possible. She never complained of discomfort. Instead, she asked others about their day, showed concern for the troubles in friend's lives, and wanted to help make life more comfortable for her family.
When a doctor finally came in to tell her the end was near, she listened patiently, as always. She took in the news as she did with all the news she'd previously received: as a warrior, seemingly unafraid of fate, and with a heart somehow still open to hope and trust of whatever was to come.
As that doctor turned to leave the room she muttered, "I really like your tie," as if to accept the daunting news wholly while still placing kindness as compassion as priority.
Now, in Susi's absence, we ask for similar compassion to be shown to Susi's family, particularly her three children. As a stay-at-home mom, raising her kids with no income, Susi wished she could leave her children with more.
This week we will be finalizing plans for her memorial service and will help create an account for her children's future. Losing their mother is already the hardest time of their lives and we are hoping to make this transition a little easier for them.
As friends who adore Susi and her family, we are truly grateful for your help. Every little bit counts.
Thank you so much for helping keep Susi's smile shining bright!
