Hi all, I can't believe I'm writing this.
On Friday, June 14th at 4:00 AM, Matt and I rushed Oliver to the emergency vet after he lost control over his back paws and started screaming in pain. It happened so rapidly, that by the time we got his MRI he had lost deep pain sensation, and was paralyzed in both hind legs - categorized as stage 5 IVDD.
We were able to make the decision to do surgery within 12 hours of obvious symptoms, so Oliver has a 50/50 chance at walking again with the help of at-home care, medications, and physical therapy.
Although we have insurance that covers up to $7,500 and emergency savings, the costs of the surgery, pre-tests, and physical therapy we estimate will cost anywhere from $17,000-$20,000, if not more.
I didn't want to create a Go Fund Me because I always try to do everything I can on my own, and it's extremely difficult to be vulnerable and ask for help - especially financially. But Oliver's pain, surgery, and diagnosis has been one of the most traumatic things I've ever experienced. I love him so much, he's my soul dog, and would do anything for him to keep him happy and live a long, healthy life. While going through his rehab over the next several months (if not longer), the one thing I need to focus on is his health and getting him back to his normal self as best as possible.
One thing I want to alleviate in the stress all of this is the cost. So I decided to ask for help for both Matt and I as we navigate this next stage of Oliver's recovery journey. Any little bit would help, and I would be immensely grateful. We're so happy Oliver is alive, and the surgery so far went well - and so thankful for the entire team at Animal Medical Center for doing everything they can do aid in Oliver's surgery and alleviate his pain.
Thank you all so much, and please keep Oliver in your thoughts <3
