It was Sunday morning. May 21. I missed 3 calls in a row from Rachel. Rachel doesn't call. Ever. She texts. I called her back immediately. I don't remember our exact conversation, it was very brief. Cameron, her son, decided to end his life.
So here we are, almost 3 weeks later. I've been obsessing about how to create this fundraiser..what to say, because I stumble and ramble..but this is the deal- Mental illness is real. It's as real as hypertension, cancer, diabetes, etc...and it's absolutely brutal sometimes. Mental illness killed Cameron. As a mother and a friend, I can say that the grief and pain that Rachel and her family are going through is unimaginable. Their world has been blown apart.
It's mental health month- let's help a sister out. For real. She can't go through this alone. It's going to be a lifetime of healing. Please- help with whatever you're able to help with. I want my friend to recover financially from the unexpected expenses of losing a child. I want my friend to get the best grief counseling money can buy. I want her to have spa days. I want her to go to Montana to visit her daughter, Sage. I want her to enjoy life and her loved ones. They need to heal. It's going to take time.
Again, please help if you can. Say a prayer. Hold space. Light a candle. Send good vibes. All of it.
Cameron- Rest in Peace, buddy. Your memory will be a blessing to all who had the pleasure of getting to know you. You were one in a million. I hope you don't feel so alone anymore. You are so very loved.
