Hi! If you don't already know this, my name is Mia Miller, and I am currently pursuing a BFA in Acting at Emerson College in Boston.
This fundraising campaign is to help curb the costs of the SITI Summer Theater Workshop, which they describe best in their own words: 'an intensive workshop that includes hard, physical work, theoretical research, and the generation and performance of new work by each participant. The program's objective is to develop courageous theater artists who are able to integrate into their work new influences from many disciplines. The curriculum is designed for pre-professional and professional artists.'
If you want a more indepth look at the summer workshop or the SITI Company in general, feel free to follow these links: https://www.skidmore.edu/summertheater/about.php

The program takes place in Saratoga Springs, NY from June 5th-July 2nd and is hosted on the campus of Skidmore College. Emerson and Skidmore were my top two schools I was considering when making my college decision. Although I ended up choosing Emerson because they offered the specific degree that I wanted, part of my heart definitely still lies in the beautiful and vast campus of Skidmore. They also have one of the best dining halls in the nation, so maybe a bit of my stomach lies there as well! I want to let you guys know what a big deal it is for me that I get the opportunity to have the best of both worlds: pursing a BFA at Emerson, living on the campus of Skidmore for a month, and training with world-class instructors and artists.
Honestly, I applied to this program assuming I wouldn't get in. Professional artists of all ages apply to this 60-person intesive, and I assumed that there was no way that a little fledgling of an artist like me would be accepted. Needless to say, there were plenty of excited screams when I opened my congratulatory email. Getting into this program has given me a rare glimmer of artistic pride and also shown me how many loving and supportive people I have by my side. I am truly at a loss of pretty words that properly describe how ecstatic I am to have this opportunity.
The Logistics: Tuition for the program is around $2200, room and board is around $1800, and flights from my hometown (the lovely Fargo, ND) to Saratoga will be no less than $600. I know what you're thinking; "Holy smokes Mia, that's a lot of money!" Guys, I know. There enters this fundraising campaign. So if you're doing the math along with me, my goal is to raise a little bit over half of what the estimated total expenses will be. My family and I cannot do this alone, and I feel like I've been offered an opportunity that I cannot refuse.
Know that when and if you donate to this fundraising campaign, you are donating to an incredibly dedicated growing artist. For those who don't know me, rest assured that I take what I do very seriously; I am hardworking, I care a lot (sometimes I definitely care a little too much), and I do what I can to inject a little bit of love into everything that I do. I am fully aware that the trail I am blazing is not by any means the easy one, but I know in my heart it is the one that will be the most self-actuallizing for me, as well as the one that will continue to give back to my communities and future artists.
Theater is often referred to as the last truly collaborative artform, and I am reaching out to you, dear internet, as collaborators. It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes very generous internet donors to raise an actor in the 21st century. Any and all donations will mean the world to me.
Thank you for your consideration and for taking the time to visit this page!
Much love and thanks,
Mia Miller
