Ian McMath is a retired Australian senior citizen who spends the majority of his time living in the Philippines, enjoying playing golf and poker with his group of friends. He usually returns to Australia once a year to visit his 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Unfortunately as everyone knows 2020 has thrown everyone a curveball with Covid-19 and Ian's visit home to Australia couldn't happen.
In early November 2020, Ian suddenly fell very ill. He was admitted to hospital and his condition has steadily declined. He's battling fluid on the lungs and cardiac issues, as well as multiple infections that they just can't seem to get on top of.
The medical bills are ever growing. So far his family have already paid over $8,000AUD. On the 4th of December, Ian's condition worsened and he was transferred to ICU. His family do not know what the prognosis is as communication with the doctors and hospital has proved to be very arduous and difficult.
ICU charges will be extensive. And fees for the multiple doctors that have been looking after Ian are yet to be given.
In a perfect world, Ian's family would like to get him stable enough to get him on a flight back to Australia to be with everyone. Failing that (and what is looking more and more realistic) they just want to be able to continue getting him well looked after, comfortable and pain free. But funds are rapidly running out.
2020 has been a terrible year and times are tough for lots of people right now. Bu if you can, please spare something to help ease the stress for Ian's family. Having your father/grandfather/great-grandfather extremely sick while in a hospital overseas alone and so far away from family is devastating enough, but having to deal with financial stress just makes it ten times harder.
