This is our Daughter Irene : Article in Olive Press
She is 5 years old, and she is extremely positive and clever child.
Our sunshine was diagnosed with CPD (Spastic diplegy cerebral palsy) when she was 15 months old.
Since then we have been in constant struggle. Despite numerous treatments, rehabilitation and all sorts of procedures such as botolina, foot gypsum, and constantly wearing orthoses, she is still unable to walk alone.
We never give up, so now we must ask for your help.
After all that we have tried, we found a procedure which will help Irene to walk.
The procedure is called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), done at the St. Louis Specialty Children's Hospital (USA, Missouri) by Dr. Park. The amount needed for the procedure is $ 60,000. This sum is unattainable for our family.
That's why your help is crucial! We truly believe that all together we can help Irene to walk independently, to run, play and enjoy life to the fullest.
Here are the details of the operation itself:
Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy is a procedure that interrupts part of the sensory dorsal nerve endings that cause spasticity in the lower limbs in people with CPD. The neurosurgeon Dr. T. Park performs about 250 such operations per year. The rate of complications in his operations is very low and he is globally recognized as a specialist in this field. Dr. Park predicts that after surgery, Irene will be able to walk alone!
This is a great hope for us and we're courageously taking the next step to the fulfillment of our only desire - we want Irene to be able to walk to school independently on her first day, like any other child.
Life is a struggle and we believe that it is important to help each other. Especially when it comes to our children.
