Rose is a 22 year old youth from Nairobi, Kenya. Her father died when she was young and mother disappeared from home leaving her and her brother with the stepmother who decided to send Rose to work as an ayah or househelp at the age of 12 years. Rose missed going to school as she was expected to work and the money was sent to her stepmother. One day Rose ran away and traveled to Nairobi to a place called Dandora. She lived on the streets begging until one lady who was a teacher whom she would assist carry her shopping decided to take Rose and provide accommodation and tutor her from home as Rose assisted with household chores. The teacher registered Rose for her Primary certificate exam which she passed to allow her join high school. From her savings, she enrolled in school but could not afford to pay her fees making her miss school.
Rose is gifted in playing soccer. An organisation took her up and helped her complete High School but could not pay her Tertiary education. She is currently volunteering at Vijana Amani Pamoja (VAP) where she trains young girls in the informal settlements to play soccer. She is also enrolled in a 1 year Diploma course studying interior design which has been suspended due to COVID19. During this pandemic season, she has been making masks to distribute to community members in informal settlement in Nairobi where she resided.
Her health issues began way back as a child since she did not have proper medical care. She has only visits a doctor when it is critical with the help of well-wishers. This last month has been very difficult for her. She was diagnosed with huge uterine fibroid that is growing very fast. The gynecologist recommended immediate surgery which is very costly.
I am part of the team mentoring Rose and seeking financial support of AUD $3500 for the surgery and home-based care after the operation. She lives alone in a one roomed house. She requires someone to assist her as she recuperates. She does not have immediate family.
Rose requires urgent help to avoid further complications and enable her proceed with her multiple tasks. She also wants to provide sex education to young girls in the informal settlement she lived due to the high rate of teenager pregnancy during this pandemic.
Your assistance will be highly appreciated to see Rose accomplish her dreams. She is a very resilient lady.
