My name is Meg Busing, and I am a close friend of the Garst family. I am reaching out today to ask for your help on behalf of Terra and Tyson Garst, who are preparing for a long trip to Utah for treatment for their 13-year-old son, Emerson.

For those who may not know, Terra and Tyson's wonderful son, Emerson, has been diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy. As Emerson has grown older, his seizures have become more frequent and harder to control with medication alone. After seeking second opinions, the family has developed a treatment plan with the neurology team at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Emerson and Tyson are en route to Salt Lake City, where they are preparing for a hospital stay of over two weeks for Emerson’s care.

Emerson will undergo an MRI on Monday, followed by a stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) to pinpoint exactly where his seizures are originating. If everything goes as planned, on October 15, doctors will place an RNS device directly on Emerson’s brain as an added treatment for his seizures.
