In typical Angie fashion, today I received a video via text along with a quirky, “So how was your Halloween?” A video showing one of my closest friend’s apartment charred to ash, flooded from relief efforts, coated in fine black soot from floor to ceiling. From Angie’s Instagram:
”Last night I woke up to smoke smell, then alarms, leashed the pups and called 911.
Huge shout out to IFD for doing an amazing job preventing damage to life.
It’s been about 12 hours and I’m still standing in the aftermath trying to process.
Every inch of my apartment is covered in soot that I can’t even get the dogs’ stainless steel food dishes. It’s like there was a fire, then a tornado, then a flood.
My heart aches for those who have been through this or other disasters that destroy everything they own.
My hands are black. My dogs are traumatized.
I’m not sure where I’m going to sleep or bathe.
I did get a new tooth brush.
I can’t live here anymore.
Strangers are wandering around my home taking inventory of my personal belongings.
I just don’t know what to do.”
We discussed the necessary immediate plan including a dog-friendly hotel and a list of needs (list forthcoming). Angie has been loving life in Indianapolis, but right now she needs all the Minnesota Nice she can get.
