On behalf of the Millo Family, my family and I have created a GoFundMe for my mom, Veronica Millo who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer since April 2023. The goal of this fundraiser is to alleviate the cost of medical bills so that Veronica can focus on her treatment and a healthy recovery moving forward.

What started off as a diagnosis of pancreatitis has led to an ongoing battle with cancer. Continuous pain informed the doctors to do further testing, only to reveal that my mom has pancreatic cancer. Since the start of my mother’s chemotherapy, constant pain led the doctors to discover the tumor has wrapped around her nerves causing unimaginable pain. Repetitive hospital visits and stays have become a regular schedule since my mom started her treatment. Pain medications aren’t enough to ease the pain, the chemotherapy was not effective, and after a second opinion, radiation is now the proposed plan of action to combat the size of the tumor. The hope for this is to minimize the size of the tumor to the point where surgery is a safe option that would remove the tumor completely.

My mom is my superhero. I have never seen her cower in the face of adversity. Through all aspects of life, she has taken battle after battle with a calm and collected fearlessness and a smile on her face. Her strength has been fueled with love and compassion from her family and friends, and she’ll never let the pain she is enduring get the best of her. My mom’s biggest superpower is her smile. It is an unbeatable force that when you see it, you feel safe, you feel comforted, you feel loved. From her countless clients while working at the optical, to enjoying company with her friends, and being with her family everyday, her smile radiates and pours out endless positivity. My mom has taught me to be the light in someone’s darkness, because they may need it more than you. I have learned to be a bright energy to someone’s day even if mine is dark and hollow. I can’t fathom my superhero going through so much pain. It isn’t fair to see the strongest person you know fight the hardest battle alone. Even our strongest superheroes who are always helping others need assistance sometimes, too.
